Haunted Locations

Places that make you go....hmmmm...

Over the years, we have had the pleasure of investigating some of the better-known locations in our region, as well as some that are a bit less famous in the paranormal world. Here are just a few of places we've visited. Click on the links to go directly to their websites to find out more.

Madison, Ohio

Some say Madison Seminary is the most haunted place in Northeast, Ohio. We think those people may be correct. Our team has investigated here a number of times and we have never been disappointed. From disembodied singing to footsteps to responses from entities using multiple pieces of equipment, this beautiful and historic building is full of secrets waiting to be told.

Mansfield, Ohio

This place will forever hold a place in our spooky hearts. It was the first time we ever captured EVPs and that's all it took to get us hooked. And to think, all this madness that is now an integral part of our lives started with a public investigation. Note: if you go, don't spend all your time in the cell blocks - head into the Admin building! This is where we had a multitude of experiences, but we also had some interaction in the cell blocks.

Weston, West Virginia

Formerly known as the Weston State Hospital, the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum n Historic Weston, West Virginia is on the National Historic Landmark registry and served those considered to be mentally ill starting in the mid-1800's. This formidable 160-year-old building is breathtaking in its size and scope. We participated in a public hunt and captured amazingly clear, Class A EVPs in Dean's room and had several personal experiences throughout the night. While we were not thrilled with the way the public hunt was conducted, it was a relatively affordable way to investigate this massive structure and learn much about its history.

Moundsville, West Virginia

Imposing and impressive, the West Virginia Penitentiary once housed some of the most notorious criminals in America. Built in 1876 and in use until 1995, this facility in Moundsville, West Virginia, is now on the bucket list of many paranormal investigators - including us. We did a short public hunt here a couple of years ago, but there were too many people - and many of them only there for a scare - for us to do a proper investigation. But the building is full of tragic stories, and promises to be an interesting location for us to dig into if we are able to secure enough team members to make this an affordable private event in the future.

Crown Point, Indiana

The Old Sheriff's House and Jail located in Crown Point, Indiana - just outside of Chicago - is an amazing building and listed on the The National Register of Historic Places. We investigated this facility two nights in a row with two very different groups of attendees. Each night was amazing in its own way. We played a poker game with spirits who engaged with us for several minutes one night, and then next evening every single piece of equipment we lined up outside the jail cells went crazy after we placed attendees in the cells and one of us acted the part of a jailer. It appears that at least some of those incarcerated here never left.

Opened in 1889, the Old Licking County Jail is a spectacular, historical facility with many tales trapped within its castle-like façade. Fifteen members of our group spent the night here - some of us seasoned; some newbies - but we all came away with stories to tell and evidence to share. Footsteps and whistling were reported by some of our team, and we are hoping that the disembodied screams that many of us heard are residual in nature, especially if they emanated from the woman we believe it might have been. Those who came with us as skeptics that night, left in the wee hours of the morning as believers. The hosts of this magnificent landmark are gracious, helpful, knowledgeable and kind. We highly recommend a visit to this historic and unique site.

New Castle, Pennsylvania

Hill View Manor will always be special to us because it was the first real ghost hunt we ever attended. We had nothing but our cell phones and flashlights as we traipsed around the building completely clueless about what to do other than what we watched on the original Ghost Hunters show. Known as The Lawrence County Home for the Aged, which was considered a poor house or poor farm, it was home to the county’s elderly, mentally ill, and destitute. We have investigated here a number of times since and this is where we caught our clearest EVP to date.

Hinsdale, New York

Tucked away in the middle of nowhere, New York, the Hinsdale House just has a creepy vibe. Stories abound regarding who or what haunts this place, but one thing most investigators agree on is that it is most definitely haunted. Exorcisms were performed when Clara and Phil Dandy lived there with their children in the early 1970s. But since they left, other residents have not stayed long.

Trinway, Ohio

Prospect Place Estate was built in 1856. Also known as Trinway Mansion and Prospect Place Mansion, the building is comprised of 29 rooms and is located in Trinway, Ohio. It was built by abolitionist George Willison Adams, and it is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places and the Ohio Underground Railroad Association's list of Underground Railroad sites. We participated in the World's Largest Ghost Hunt at this location but plan to offer this location as a private investigation for our members soon. We experienced interesting communication in the barn using the Ovilus and some flashlight interaction in the second floor living area.

Old St. Joseph's Hospital

Lorain, Ohio

Unfortunately, this facility is no longer open for tours or investigations, but when we visited a few years ago, we were lucky enough to capture EVPs, have crazy K2 hits despite there being zero electricity in the building, and an awful feeling of overwhelming sadness in one particular room on the ICU/CCU floor.

Savannah, Georgia

One of only a few locations open to the public for paranormal investigations in the VERY haunted city of Savannah, Georgia, the Sorrel–Weed House is often referred to as the Pumpkin House. Tales of tragedy and heartache live within the walls of this gorgeous mansion, as well as in the carriage house which sits on the property. If  you're ever in Savannah, take a tour, hear the stories, and see which spirits you may encounter.

Savannah, Georgia

This historic theatre opened in December of 1818.  It is one of the oldest, continually operating theaters in the United States, used for both film and live stage performances.  The Savannah Theatre has more than its share of historic tragedy, including a hurricane hit in 1868, and two major fires in 1906 and 1948.  After the 1948 fire, it was remodeled using the Art Deco style that is seen today.  It is believed there are a number of spirits who still reside here, who have made the theatre their spectral home.   Truth in Evidence (see partners page) is your contact for all investigations

Construction began on this family home in 1820 by Isiah Davenport. He and his wife, Sarah, had 10 children, the last of whom was born one month after Isiah’s death in 1827 from yellow fever. After Isiah’s death, Sarah used the home as a boarding house to help pay her husband’s debts, until she sold the building to the Baynard family in 1840. It remained in the Baynard family until 1955.  The Davenport House is considered to be the beginning of the organized preservation movement in Savannah.  It is now a well-preserved museum which offers tours explaining the lives and times  of the Davenport family and the enslaved people who lived there.

Savannah, Georgia

Cleveland, Ohio

Built for a wealthy German immigrant, Hannes Tiedemann, in 1881, the Victorian Queen Anne style home is thought to be the most haunted place in Ohio.
Hannes and his wife, Louise, and their two surviving children, August and Dora, moved into the home upon its completion. It replaced a home that sat on the property prior to its demolition. Hannes started construction on current residence after the death of their 15 year old daughter Emma, who died from complications of diabetes. Hannes and Louise also lost infant children to other diseases.
After Louise died in 1895, Hannes sold the house to the Mullhauser family. The grand structure also served as a gathering place for German cultural organizations before being purchased by the Romano’s in 1968, who were the first to claim evidence of hauntings.
The current owners took possession of the house in 2011, and it was opened up for paranormal research groups at the end of 2022.

Gettysburg.jpg

Disclaimer: Please note that paranormal tour operators cannot take you on the battlefield. If you decide to go on your own, we advise you to be cautious and respectful - if park officials catch you using any equipment it will likely be confiscated and you could face very large fines. The battlefield closes at 10 pm daily. That being said, we caught amazing EVPs on our voice recorder in broad daylight while exploring the battlefield. We also experienced disembodied voices after sunset and heard phantom cannons, gunshots and even a snare drum.

Gettysburg, Pennsylvania

Gettysburg, Pennsylvania

The Jennie Wade house was actually the home of Jennie's sister, Georgia McClellan. The home survived the Battle of Gettysburg and was where the only civilian death took place. Jennie Wade was shot through the front door of the home as she was preparing bread for the Union soldiers. We took a ghost tour of the building and our guide allowed us to bring along some equipment. We experienced what felt like a child tugging on our jacket, and a door opening then slamming, seemingly on its own. We are hoping to do a more in-depth investigation here on our next trip to Gettysburg.

Dunkirk, New York

Warren, Ohio

This stunning Greek Revival mansion was built in 1832 as a wedding gift. Listed on the National Historic Registry, it is home to the Warren Heritage Center, and it is located along Millionaires Row in Warren, Ohio. We did a private investigation here and encountered some interesting interactions with some equipment. It is a beautifully maintained location that is definitely worth a visit.

The Dunkirk Lighthouse and adjacent living quarters which stand today on the shores of Lake Erie were built in 1875-1876. This amazing structure in a most beautiful setting is where the Veterans' Park and Lighthouse museum are located. Several times a year, ghost hunts are offered to the public to learn more about the history - and the the spirits who still may be calling this lighthouse home. We have been honored to be guides for these events from time to time.

knickerbocker.jpg

The Knickerbocker Hotel is a bewitching place which has been lovingly cared for over the years. Filled with period pieces and beautiful decor, it seems it is also home to wonderful souls from the other side. The evening we spent here was filled with positive vibes and sometimes entertaining experiences while communicating with spirit - we are pretty sure the EVPs we captured in the second floor hallway were a couple of guys poking fun at us women who were trying to turn on some equipment. We are anxious to visit again and see who we run into!

Linesville, Pennsylvania

kinsman store.jpg

Unfortunately, at this time we are not able to find any information on whether this location is still open or offering investigations. Early on in our paranormal life (before we had any equipment), we happened to go on a public investigation of this building. It was interesting and a little creepy. One woman in the group captured a photo of what appeared to be a ghost dog on the stairs.

Kinsman General Store

Kinsman, Ohio

railway.jpg

Every so often, The Midwest Railway Preservation Society offers paranormal investigations hosted by O.R.B.S. where you can explore the roundhouse and a "ghost" or "death" car which was involved in a horrifying accident in 1943 between the passenger car and a locomotive which resulted in the loss of 200 lives. If you have a chance to go - do it! The history is fascinating. We captured EVPs, and experienced what we believed was some poltergeist activity in the tool shop. Seriously. Don't even joke about messing with the tools!

Cleveland, Ohio

moonville.jpg

Vinton County, Ohio

So, when we first visited Moonville Tunnel - before we owned any equipment or had done any serious investigations, we drove around for what seemed like hours in the Hocking Hills area, looking for this haunted tunnel we had read about. We had only the GPS coordinates and a written description about how to find it. Note: GPS does not work well in this area of the state. Eventually, we found where we thought it should be, trudged through waist-high weeds, plenty of mud, jumped over a creek, and picked through what seemed like it might be a trail, fighting off bugs - and behold! There was Moonville Tunnel. I hear that it is now a marked trail that is quite easy to traverse. What's the fun in that? But the history and ghost stories are fascinating - and you can't help but getting an eerie feeling as you walk through the tunnel and into the remnants of the town.
